William Lawson was one of the youngest artists to win top honor in the Hoosier Salon and Indiana Heritage Arts with his paintings. As a young artist, he closely studied the works of the Hoosier Group and earned several awards in Indiana’s juried exhibitions.
He is known for his urban scenes of Indianapolis as well as remote landscapes.
After leaving Indiana, Lawson relocated to the Pacific Northwest where he painted images of the Cascade and Olympic mountains. His works document images of Indianapolis and Seattle that have been forgotten or changed in the process of gentrification.
Since the mid 1990’s, Lawson Indianapolis work has uniquely depicted area neighborhoods such as Fountain Square, Lockerbie, Chatham Arch, Irvington and Old Northside.
