Art With a Heart – Lead Teacher & Program Support Job Description

SUMMARY
The Lead Teacher & Program Support position is a full time, exempt position supporting
out-of-school time programs throughout the year.

Under the direction of the Director of Out-of-School Time Programs, the Program
Support Assistant performs the following functions:

  1.  Assistance in developing curriculum for both Out-of-School Time programs and
    their Creative Classroom Connections program
  2.  Administrative support for the Director of Out-of-School Time Programs
  3. Materials preparation and management
  4. Serve as a teacher for OOST programs

Typical work week is Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-6pm through the school year
and Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm during the summer.

Responsibilities
Curriculum Development Support

  • Generate ideas to present to Director of Out-of-School Time Programs for
    curriculum
  • Creation of draft lesson plans for various curricula including summer, afterschool, library programs, and Creative Classroom Connections.

Administrative Support

  • Program Quality Management – assist the Director of Out-of-School Time
    Programs in visiting and communicating with program instructors to ensure that
    programs are being delivered effectively and required feedback is being
    submitted (attendance, weekly reflections, timesheets etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Assist in development and implementation of program procedures

Materials Preparation and Management

  • Work with volunteer manager to schedule and manage volunteer groups to assist
    with materials preparation
  • Assist with ordering and packing of materials for all Out-Of-School time programs
    Teaching
  • Teach Saturday Studio programs during the school year
  • Teach Afterschool Studio programs at least twice a week until 6:00pm
  • Teach summer programs in June and July
  • Substitute for program instructors as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General/Special Knowledge and Skills
Candidates should:

  • Demonstrate experience creating curriculum that meets AWaH standards of
    excellence
  • Manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Be detail oriented with strong retention/recall
  •  Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel,
    PowerPoint and Outlook

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise volunteers within the classroom or studio.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical
Exerting up to 25 pounds of force regularly and/or a negligible amount of force
frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Occasional
instances require kneeling, crouching, reaching. Normal conditions will require regular
standing, walking, typing, talking, and hearing.

Visual Acuity
Work requires close visual acuity to prepare reports, correspondence, view computer
monitor, and read printed material of varying font sizes.

Environmental Conditions
Work is performed in the Indianapolis area. Reliable vehicle required with provisions for
safe travel and breakdown. Employees are advised to have ‘work use’ coverage on their
automobile insurance. Temperature conditions may vary from season to season within
the building, not all client locations will have air conditioning.

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Level & Experience:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education or Bachelor’s in Fine Art – with at least 3
years art classroom teaching experience including strong classroom management skills
and curriculum writing experience.
Preferred: Background in arts’ integration, choice-based/TAB education and STEAM.

COMPENSATION
Compensation for this position is $32,000 to $34,000. We regret there are no benefits at
this time.

PERKS
Although there are no benefits at this time, you would get 7 paid holidays, 1 week
vacation in Spring, 1 week vacation in Fall, 2 weeks off during winter break (following
the school calendar), as well as 10 additional days PTO.
