Thank you all for your thoughtful participation in the Arts Council of Indianapolis' Phase I COVID-19 Artist Survey. Information gathered in the early days of the pandemic allowed the Arts Council to build a fundraising case that secured more than $450,000. This first phase funding created more than 900 grants of $500 available to independent artists and arts contract/freelance/gig workers. To date, 643 have been awarded with funding still available. This three month immediate relief funding was intended to be a bridge of support for our artist community while larger efforts from the state and federal government were developed and implemented.
The Phase I funding could be depleted by the end of May. It is now time to look forward at Phase II support and what that could look like. We need artists of all disciplines to help once again with defining what your current greatest needs are as well as what support you will need in the process of recovery. Input from all artists at all levels and in all categories is critical to build support for new programs, new funding, and overall support of the sector.
