Hendricks Civic Theatre OPEN AUDITION and CAST INFORMATION:
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”
WHEN: Sunday, Sept 18, 5-8 PM & Monday, Sept 19, 6-8 PM
WHERE: Longstreet Playhouse – 4998 North County Road 100 East, Danville IN
DETAILS: Auditions will consist of a reading from the play script and other acting exercises. If you’d like to get a copy of the audition material ahead of time to prepare, please email ThompsonRS@yahoo.com.
Rehearsals will begin October 3. Please bring a list conflicts to the audition. A rehearsal schedule will be available at the audition. Performances are December 2-4 and 9-11.
SYNOPSIS: In this hilarious Christmas classic, adapted from the best-selling book by Barbara Robinson, Grace Bradley is a woman who suddenly finds herself in charge of the annual Christmas pageant and is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem, and the fun, when the Herdman clan collide with the Christmas story head on!
AVAILABLE ROLES: 4 men, 6 women, 8 boys, 9 girls
GRACE BRADLEY – mother, in charge of the children’s Christmas pageant, 35ish
BOB BRADLEY – father, solid family man, 35-38
MRS. ARMSTRONG – managerial in voice and manner, 50ish
MRS. SLOCUM – pleasant, motherly woman, 35-60
MRS. MCCARTHY – a younger, less imperious version of Mrs. Armstrong, middle 40s
MRS. CLARK – 35-60
MRS. CLAUSING – 35-60
FIREMAN – any age
FIREMAN – any age
REVEREND HOPKINS – middle to late 40s
Children – these parts will be cast with middle school and high school actors
BETH BRADLEY – daughter of Grace, strong voice and presence
CHARLIE BRADLEY – traditional kid brother
RALPH HERDMAN – ragged, scroungy, slouching manner, touch of adolescent cool
IMOGENE HERDMAN – loud, bossy, crafty
LEROY HERDMAN – tough, sure of himself
CLAUDE HERDMAN – tough, combative
OLLIE HERDMAN – looking for trouble, Claude’s usual partner in crime
GLADYS HERDMAN – smail, wiry, fiesty
ALICE WENDLEKEN – prim, proper, pain in the neck
MAXINE, BEVERLY, SHIRLEY, JUANITA, DORIS, ELMER, HOBIE, DAVID – children in the pageant cast – parts may be doubled
