Assistant/Associate Professor of Art
The School of Art welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August, 2018. The School of Art at Ball State has forty-nine full-time faculty and offers state-of-the-art facilities serving over 500 undergraduate majors as well as a growing graduate program. Programs at the BA, BS, BFA and MFA levels include animation, art education, art history, ceramics, drawing, glass, metals, painting, photography and intermedia arts, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication (graphic design). Housed in the Art and Journalism building, School of Art students enjoy over 57,000 square feet of world-class facilities, a nationally ranked animation program, the Atrium Gallery, and the Glick Center for Glass. Students and faculty work closely with David Owsley Museum of Art on campus, among the finest university art collections in the nation. The School of Art at Ball State University welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate sculpture and art courses; assisting a studio manager in maintaining the woodshop, metals fabrication lab, and sculpture studios; as well as advising, curriculum development, and service to the School of Art, College of Fine Arts, and University will be expected. Significant creative/scholarly productivity will be necessary to achieve tenure.
MFA in Sculpture or related field from an accredited institution completed by August 1, 2018; expertise in more than one area of traditional sculpture methods and materials (eg. stone, metal, wood, ceramic, casting, bronze casting, assemblage, installation, and furniture design); record of successful teaching beyond graduate school; knowledge of the history, criticism, and contemporary issues of sculpture; knowledge of current critical discourse within contemporary art; record of established creative/scholarly productivity.
Significant record of exhibitions and professional accomplishments; record of successful teaching and advising of undergraduate seniors and graduate students in sculpture; experience in foundry work and large-scale fabrication; wood and metal shop maintenance and safety; records of curriculum development; expertise in the use of new technologies in support of contemporary sculptural art forms and practices. Ability to work collaboratively within the school, college, and university.
