Center Stage Community Theatre is auditioning for its first show of the 2022 Season! "The Signal Season of Dummy Hoy" by Allen Meyer & Michael Nowak and Directed By Matt Trgovac. Seeking a diverse ensemble of deaf actors, ASL proficient actors, and hearing actors for a physical comedic play about baseball legend Dummy Hoy.

Auditions will be held at the theatre at 604 Powell St Lebanon IN on December 6th and 7th 2021, with backups on December 13th and 14th if needed. Auditions will begin at 6:30pm. Show runs March 18th-April 3rd 2022 Friday Saturday and Sunday. Genders are a suggestion for most roles but may be played as male, female or non-binary except for Speaker and Dummy. Synopsis: In 1886 the first Deaf baseball player, William Ellsworth “Dummy” Hoy, joins the Oshkosh Wisconsin baseball team where he is met with adversity as teammates struggle to communicate with him, accept and embrace his differences on or off the field. "Dummy" begins a journey that ends in acceptance and a historic legacy having revolutionized the game of baseball. All actors should note there are additional roles not listed for deaf and hearing actors which will result in some actors playing multiple roles in double casting.

Roles Available:
Dummy Hoy- Male 22-30 DEAF ROLE, fluency in ASL is required; well-educated, sensitive, gentle, athletically gifted and has a terrific sense of humor.

All Ethnicities
A.C.- Female 20-28 - Speaking role; an ambitious young woman with a drive for success in ‘a man’s world’; knowledge of ASL is a plus but not required for the role.
Speaker Hoy- Female 25-35- ASL Proficiency and the ability to play multiple speaking roles required; ASL Interpreter experience is a plus; role represents Dummy’s alter ego/memory/conscious.
Judge- Male- 30-50 an experienced more senior player on the team; strong presence, firm, authoritative; speaking role. No ASL required.
D.S. and Press- Male 18-35- the ‘catcher’ and ‘pitcher’ combination on the team; speaking roles; some ASL knowledge and interest is preferred for Press.
Dooley- Male 25-45- an experienced senior on the team; good hearted but hot-tempered Irishman; Irish accent is a plus but not required. Speaking role. No ASL knowledge required.
Selee- Male 35-60- speaking role; the manager of the team; encourages Dummy to play and nurtures his abilities. No ASL knowledge required.
Tommy- Male 20-30- speaking role, ballplayer; not the brightest, but honest, loveable and a loyal roommate to Dummy; also plays the cornet, poorly. No ASL knowledge required.
Tyler and Mutt- Male 20-30- speaking roles; the best player on the team but a bully who likes to drink; Mutt is his best friend, average player, a gopher and sidekick who breaks away from Tyler over the course of the play. No ASL knowledge required for either role.
Woodrow- Male 18-30- speaking role; a ballplayer, lover of language, words and theater. He enjoys baseball for all its ‘showmanship’. No ASL knowledge required.
