The Indianapolis Art Center is calling for entries for artists in any medium 18 or older living in the United States for a “Clotheshorse” – A national juried exhibition investigating how clothing, accessories, and fashion play a role in identity, commercialism, and social media in today’s world. Multiple mediums, perspectives, and techniques will collide in this survey of all things sartorial. Cash awards total $2,500.00. This show ONLY ACCEPTS two entries per artist or artist team. The show will be juried by Kyle Herrington, Director of Exhibitions and Events at the Indianapolis Art Center.
Entry Fee/Images:
$25 non-refundable entry fee for the submission of two pieces. Each artist or artist team may submit up to two pieces of work for jurying.
Eligibility:
- This exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States.
- Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center.
- All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible for inclusion.
Media:
- All media eligible, although work must have a tie-in to clothing, fashion, and/or accessories as a material element or subject matter. Installation artists should contact us before applying to ensure compatibility of space.
- 2D artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds or be bigger than 10’ x 10’.
Awards:
Best in Show - $1,500.00
Best in 2D (includes video) - $500.00
Best in 3D (includes installation) - $500.00
Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception in a public ceremony. It is encouraged that artists attend the reception, but not required.
Accepted Work:
- The Indianapolis Art Center exhibitions staff reserves the right to remove any works from the exhibition based on special installation circumstances or discrepancies between the juried images and actual work.
- All accepted work must remain on display until the end of the exhibition, August 7, 2019
- All work must come ready to install/hang. For multi-media and other installations artist should be available to assist with installation (to take place June 13 – June 20, 2019).
- All work may be offered for sale. The Art Center retains a 35% commission on all sales.
Delivery:
- All artwork must arrive by Thursday, June 13, 2019. Artist is responsible for the shipping cost and insurance of the work while in transit. Work must be shipped in a reusable container and return shipping is also to be paid by the artist. Hand-delivered work may be dropped off beginning Monday, June 3 through Thursday, June 13, 2019
- The Art Center is open: Monday – Friday 9a.m. – 10p.m. Saturday 9a.m. – 6p.m. Sunday Noon – 6p.m.
Liability:
- The Art Center will be responsible for insuring the exhibition while on view, and upon request will furnish a certificate of insurance indicating that the works are so insured prior to transportation. The Artist is responsible for providing an itemized insurance list on the Art Center’s form. This form will be emailed to the artists once accepted into the exhibition.

- Friday, May 3, 2019 – Notifications sent out (via email through Café)
- Friday, June 21, 2019 – exhibition opens, free public reception, public announcement of award winners 6-9 p.m.
- August 7, 2019 – last day of exhibition
