Apply to be a participant at the 11th annual Convergence residency hosted by Indy Convergence. It’s an intense two-week program, free of charge, where professional artists from different disciplines practice collaboration, develop a personal project, and hone their teaching skills. It is designed as an artistic incubator where artists can try something new while letting go of the fear of failure. Often failing is just one step closer to your greatest work. Convergence gives artists this freedom with the support of other professionals to help problem solve, adjust, and reshape work in its’ development stages.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY, MARCH 15.

Anyone who claims the title of artist needs to attend Indy Convergence.” -Lysandra Petersson, 2017 participant

How it works:

  • Every participant teaches a workshop in the area of their expertise
  • Most attendees bring an in-process “side project” and are given 8 hours of rehearsal time and a small budget to develop their work using the skills of the group.
  • They also sponsor a larger “umbrella project” that incorporates contributions from every resident over 20 hours of rehearsal. Residents work across disciplines. This year AK Murtadha will lead the Umbrella Project.
  • They begin each morning with a shared warm up and check-in, followed by workshops, and rehearsals
  • The residency culminates with an Open Lab Performance where projects are shown at “works in progress”

All participants are provided with:

  • Space to work (this year they will have Indy Convergence and Fonseca Theatre’s new space)
  • Some meals
  • Assistance with travel in Indianapolis
  • Housing (for out of town participants)
  • Materials for your project
  • Morning classes in yoga, pilates, and movement
