Design and Technical Director

DePauw University, a top-tier liberal arts college, seeks to hire a full-time salary position as Design and Technical Director. The Design and Technical Director supports the academic program by overseeing all scenery, lighting, sound, video, and other technical needs for all performing arts events, including School of Music, DePauw Theatre, Performing Arts Series, Music on the Square, and other possible events.  This position will also work closely with the Assistant Technical Director in all technical needs.  Work schedule will include nights and weekends as needed.  A master’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required; a degree in technical theatre is preferred.  A knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Calendar and Google Apps, and Online Data Entry and experience with AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks is desirable, along with qualifications to acquire a Pyrotechnic license from the state of Indiana.
Some duties will include the following:

• Hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising work-study crew for technical requirements of concerts and productions, as well as the overall support of all performing arts events.
• Collaborates with the Director of Productions in reviewing the performing arts production calendar for technical design needs.
• Competency to design scenery, lighting, sound, and video projections for performing arts events is desired, but may have a concentrated interest in one area.
• Oversee the construction of theatre sets.
• Approve set and lighting designs with regard to safety, compatibility and scheduling considerations.
• Review technical riders for guest artists as needed by the Director of Productions.
• Assist with the needs of guest artist events.
• Support presidential events in the Green Center.
• Perform safety checks on equipment and facilities, ensuring that safety guidelines are being met.
• Attend production meetings and operations meetings.
• Assist in developing a technical plan for space upgrades.
• Assist with Summer Camps and Programs as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
