The Indianapolis Bicentennial Commission is seeking submissions for 2020 Bicentennial designs. The Commission is looking for original designs that can be adapted for use as an official Bicentennial logo, and artist submissions that can be used for posters or memorabilia in celebration of our city.

About the Project
The history of Indianapolis can be traced back to the summer of 1820 when dozens of families built cabins along the riverbank in a settlement named Fall Creek. Commissioners hand-picked by the Indiana legislature were mandated to locate the new capital as near as possible to the center of the state, to take advantage of western migration. The legislature approved the site as the capital of the state in early 1821, and the name Indianapolis was chosen as a combination of Indiana, plus the Greek word “polis” for city.
Beginning in June 2020, Indianapolis will come together once again in celebration of the place we call home. The celebration will last a full year, from June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021.
A bipartisan commission is leading the planning, programming, and initiatives surrounding Indianapolis’ bicentennial celebration. This commission is also tasked with engaging community organizations and fundraising for city events and projects tied to the bicentennial. The nine-member body includes former mayors Bart Peterson and Greg Ballard who will serve as honorary co-chairs of the Indianapolis Bicentennial Commission. The seven additional co-chairs are longtime community leaders whose vision and contributions have helped shaped the progress and continued vitality of Indianapolis.
The project will include opportunities for neighborhoods to create bicentennial celebrations tailored to their community, as well as large, city-sponsored events, in keeping with how Indianapolis celebrated our centennial and sesquicentennial milestones. Like other major Indianapolis milestones, the bicentennial will seek to be inclusive of the rich diversity of our city, incorporating the best of Indianapolis arts, culture, civics, education, and much, much more.
All submissions should use the four Bicentennial themes — History, Civic Pride, Innovation, and Legacy — as inspiration.
Design submissions will be reviewed by members of Mayor Joe Hogsett’s Create Indy Advisory Committee, and award-winning submissions will be used for Bicentennial promotional materials, public exhibits, and more.
