Nickel Plate Trail Tunnel Artwork Phase 1
The Fishers Arts & Culture Commission (FACC) with the City of Fishers (City) seeks an artist, artist team, or creative company to be begin the visual transformation of the newly open Nickel Plate Trail tunnel under E 116th Street. Three locations have been chosen as part of this phased project, shown below, to transform with a mural. The murals should be vibrant in color and allow for an “Instagrammable” moment while also helping establish a sense of place.
Wall A: Plaza Tunnel West and Wall B: Plaza Tunnel East are identical at 194 sq. ft. each and can be submitted as one proposal or separately.
Wall C: Plaza Stairs is a unique wall at 390 sqft that flanks one of two stairs between the tunnel and the surface level.
Budget
The Budget for Wall A: Plaza Tunnel West and Wall B: Plaza Tunnel East are $6,500 each or combined at $13,000. Wall C: Plaza Stairs is budgeted at $13,000.
Timeline / Announcement
The RFQ will be open from June 27 - August 19, 2022.
Announcement of the chosen Artist, Artist Teams, or Creative Companies will be the week of September 5, 2022. Anticipated install of all three mural is June - August 2023.
Artist Eligibility
- 18 Years of Age and live in the United States.
- Have a demonstrated ability to design a visually appealing mural.
- Carry personal liability insurance for the duration of the project ($1,000,000 per occurrence)
- Be willing to meet contractual obligations, adhere to the budget, and proposed timeline.
Submission
Please submit a resume and cover letter that includes a written concept and the desired wall(s) by stating your choice of:
Wall A: Plaza Tunnel West, and/or
Wall B: Plaza Tunnel East or
Wall C: Plaza Stairs
Also include up to ten images of previous work via email with a description list that corresponds with the images to facc@fishers.in.us or via hard copy delivered to Fishers City Hall (1 Municipal Drive Fishers, IN 46038) Attention Ross Hilleary by August 19, 2022 at 4:30 PM.
