The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will host Artist Hangout, an artist meet-up on the evening of April 28th, 6-9 pm. Admission and parking are free.
Fresh off the Region 7 Arts Summit at the Harrison Center, FC9 Events Coordinator Mike Meares saw a need for artists to have the space to connect and chat, brainstorm, and get to know each other.
“It’s really hard on First Fridays, because the artists are so busy throughout the evening—which is a good thing!” Meares said. “You want to attend and support your fellow artists, but you also don’t want to block the view of the art by another visitor or take up the artist’s time when they could be selling their work. It’s such a busy night, we just can’t get around to see each other, so why not get together on another evening?”
Meares and the rest of the FC9 artists would like to encourage Indianapolis-area artists at all stages of their careers to come join together to network with other local creatives in the hopes of fostering new relationships, nurturing existing relationships, and collaborating together to strengthen the local art scene.
With Full Circle Nine Gallery structured as an artist cooperative space, hosting this kind of informal and “chill” event just seemed like a great fit.
“We encourage our member artists to connect and grow friendships, to collaborate and critique and inspire each other in their creating,” FC9 President Joy Hernandez said. “I’m always in awe of what our member artists come up with and how well they work together. It makes all the work that’s gone into establishing FC9 worth it. And our artists are out in the community, in other group shows or market places, or holding their own solo shows. We have the room to just hang out and get to know each other, and it’s time to bring in our friends and just be artists together.”
While this is the first such event at FC9, depending on turnout, there could be many more regular meetups in the future. Artists from throughout the home base of the Circle City Industrial Complex, as well as other art collectives and organizations, or even just singletons working out of their home studios and finding themselves in need of connection are invited to attend.
