Call for Artists

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY: April 15, 2017 at 4:00 pm EST.

The Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County in partnership with Main Street Greensburg are seeking artists
or teams of artists to design and execute two murals in downtown Greensburg, Indiana. These murals are part of a larger project which consists of 3 art installations, streetscape and wayfinding signage. (Two different artists/artist teams may be selected for each mural.)

Project Goals

  • To inspire the community through public art that challenges viewers to dream and become more;
  • To connect the City of Greensburg through expansion of the street scape thereby unifying various
    segments to create a sense of place and,
  • To encourage public art installations in other areas of the community.

Project Description

101 E. Main/108 S. Broadway Mural:

The mural must fit the Project Goals above and be vibrant, engaging and uplifting. For this location, due to it’s inclusion in the Historic District subject matter may be at the artist(s) discretion, but cultural, community related themes and/or historical references are needed. The mural must have appropriate content for all audiences. Religious, political or commercial promotion are not eligible for this project.

  •  Artists are encouraged to explore a variety of concepts keeping in mind that the finished product will be
    exposed to the elements for an undetermined amount of time and needs to be removable should the
    need arise (i.e. applied to panel(s) then attached to location).
  • The mural should
    •  Be original, one of a kind, new work;
    • If known images are used, the artist is responsible for obtaining all copyright permission and
      paying all license fees. Copies of permissions and licenses must be submitted.
  • Mural surface is metal and is 8’ tall by 7’ wide.
  • Mural must be completed by within six (6) weeks of contract execution.
  • The artist(s) chosen for this project will serve as an independent contractor of Main Street Greensburg.
  • Main Street Greensburg shall retain ownership of the image, including but not limited to, reproduction
    rights, physical maintenance and lifespan. In all uses of the image, the creative product will be credited
    to the artist.
