CALL FOR ENTRIES

Every Trick in the Book, a book art exhibit

Gallery No. 2

Harrison Center for the Arts

August 5, 2016

The Harrison Center for the Arts and the Herron Art Library of the IUPUI University Library are seeking artists to participate in a group book arts exhibit to open on Friday, August 5, 2016.  A $400 prize will be awarded to the best in show by the Herron Art Library of the IUPUI University Library.

Encompassing a wide range of media, artists’ books are works of art that are sometimes realized in the form of a book, but not always.  These works are usually published in small editions, though sometimes they are one-of-a-kind objects.  Artists’ books have employed a wide range of forms, including scrolls, fold-outs or loose items contained in a box.  Creative writing is often part of the artists’ book concept, including poetry and essays and playful text.  Though artists have been active in printing and book productions for centuries, the artists’ book is primarily a 20th century form.

Submission of work:

•All applications are due by June 17, 2016, 5:00 p.m.

•Please send a maximum of six digital images via email along with a completed entry form.

•Up to 3 pieces per artist may be selected for inclusion in the show.  (Exceptions may be made for series’ consisting of more than three pieces.)

•Images must be labeled with name, title, size and media.  You may send a separate list that matches up with corresponding numbered images.

•A bio, artist’s statement, and resume are encouraged, but not required.

•Curator may request a studio visit prior to final selection of participants.

•Artists who are selected to participate in the show will be notified by June 24, 2016.

An artist book can be defined as a collection of spaces.  In an effort to show the diversity and range of book arts, our interpretation of artist books will be fairly broad.  Further guidelines will be sent to selected artists.  Please review this information carefully.  Any questions can be forwarded to Pam at pam@harrisoncenter.org.
