The City of Hutchinson, Downtown Hutchinson and the Hutchinson/Reno Arts & Humanities Council present this opportunity for sculptors to display their work at SculptureWalk Downtown Hutchinson. Each chosen sculpture for the exhibit will be on outdoor display for one year beginning June of 2017.

Eligibility

Open to professional and amateur sculptors 17 years or older. Artwork selected must be free-standing, made from suitable materials for long-term outdoor display. Selected works will be placed in high vehicle and pedestrian traffic areas. Sculpture selections will be based on artistic merit, creativity, scale, public safety and durability in an outdoor setting. Between 6-8 sculptures will be selected.

Honorarium

SculptureWalk will provide an Artist Honorarium of $1000 for each sculpture selected for the exhibit. A mileage stipend of $ .55/per mi. up to 300 miles will be provided to artists traveling to attend the Reception scheduled for June 15, 2017.

Installation Considerations

Pedestal heights vary from 18” – 30”. All entries must be capable of being securely installed to a pedestal mounting base plate. An identification plaque will be provided listing the sculpture title and artist’s name.

Sales

All selected sculptures are to be for sale, and will be listed as such in the brochure and website. A 20% commission of the total retail price of the sale shall be retained.

Juror’s Award – $1,000

People’s Choice Award* - $1000

*Public voting for People’s Choice runs to Dec. 31, 2017, and will be announced in January, 2018.

Delivery and Return of Artwork

Artists are solely responsible for the delivery of their artwork, as well as all related costs. Artists are required to contact Jeremy Lindahl in advance to coordinate installation or removal of their artwork. De-installation is scheduled for May 12 to May 25, 2018.

Entry Procedure

A fee of $30 for up to 3 entries is non-refundable. Send entry fee check made payable to City of Hutchinson, c/o City Manager’s Office, P O Box 1567, Hutchinson, KS 67504-1567. Upload required materials as listed below to a Dropbox or other file sharing account and send a link to your folder named 2017 SculptureWalk to Meryl Dye at meryld@hutchgov.com. Uploading materials to a file sharing account will allow materials to be shared among members of the selection committee. Do NOT mail entry form and required materials. No other method of entry will be accepted.

Required Materials:

  • This completed and signed Entry Form as pdf file.
  • Artist bio or resume in pdf and artist photo (jpg format) to be used in promotion and website.
  • Up to three (3) works in jpg format (up to 3 alternate views of each work).
  • Annotated image list (artist’s name, title of work, dimensions, and media).
  • Artist’s statement about each sculpture.

By submitting my work and entry fee I agree to the following: 1) that the art being submitted is original in design is not copied from any other source; 2) that a 20% commission on pieces sold will be retained by Downtown Hutchinson and the Hutchinson/Reno Arts & Humanities Council (HRAH); and 3) that applicable sales tax will be collected on the sale. I understand that the City of Hutchinson will provide property insurance coverage for my artwork during the term of public display. I give permission for my work to be photographed for marketing and educational purposes. Selections will be made by January 13, 2017 and all entrants will be notified as to whether their submission was selected.
