October 6th, 2017 Second Annual IUYA Scholarship Banquet and Art Show

This year the Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance (IUYA), a non-profit organization that aims to empower immigrants that want to achieve higher education, will celebrate the 2017-2018 IUYA scholarship recipients on Friday, October 6th, 2017 at Marian University’s Allison Mansion on 3200 Cold Spring Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46222 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Along with the annual banquet, IUYA will celebrate knowledge and resilience through art and will also host an Art Show beginning at 5:00 p.m that day.

IUYA is seeking Hoosier artists, undocumented or documented, that have experienced oppression to submit artwork (existing or proposed) for the Knowledge is Power, Resistance is Key Art Show. Artwork will be on display at the Allison Mansion in Marian University during the annual scholarship banquet dinner celebration. Artists will be able to share their thoughts and experiences about the different forms of oppression that underrepresented communities and individuals have to face and stand up to. Recently, there has been much negativity directed towards the undocumented community and IUYA believes it is very important to address these issues. Through art, artists will be able to portray ways in which they have encountered oppression and/ or ways they have resisted oppression in the past; Either as an undocumented person in the community, or as someone who has seen close ones be oppressed.
