The Indy Art Center is excited to announce a call for installation artwork proposals! This outdoor exhibition called "Bioblitz" is seeking proposals for site specific, temporary installations to be located on the grounds of the IAC's 9.5 acre ARTSPARK.

One project will be selected and the invited artist or artist team will be awarded a $1500 stipend to create/install their work.

This exhibition will be on view from May 13-June 13 during a particularly high-trafficked season in ARTSPARK, spanning the Art Center's annual Broad Ripple Art Fair (May 17-19), the beginning of IAC youth summer camps, regular education programming, and special event rentals including wedding receptions.

Eligibility
Individual artists or artist teams over the age of 18 residing in central Indiana. This opportunity is geared towards currently enrolled art school students or emerging artists.

Installation Ideas

The IAC is open to a variety of media and installation methods. Proposed artworks are encouraged to utilize recycled materials, previously installed outdoor works, and small-scale, ephemeral installations.

Potential projects could include (but are not limited to):

  • Light weight/fabric interventions in tree branches.
  • Scattering of small-scale found objects or natural objects throughout the installation area.
  • Pre-existing, free standing sculpture.

Notification
Applicants will be notified of their status by the end of the day Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Accepted Work
The selected artist or team is responsible for all costs associated with the fabrication, production, and transportation of their work. The IAC exhibitions team may assist with installation, loading, and unloading of materials by confirmed appointment. All accepted work must remain on display through the end of the exhibition on June 14th, 2024.

Artists may make no permanent damage to the Indianapolis Art Center’s ARTSPARK, Grounds, or existing structures. An invoice will be issued to any artist who incurs damage to the park or its contents during installation for the replacement cost of any item damaged.

Installation
Install the artwork between April 25 – May 12, 2024. While the Indianapolis Art Center will have some staff support for artists during the installation period, and will be able to help you troubleshoot should complications arise, they will not install your piece for you.

How to Apply
Each artist(or team) must submit the following on the CaFE website by Monday, April 15th, 2024 at 11:59 pm EST.

  • A current CV or Resume, not to exceed 3 pages
  • A brief description of your proposed project. What are you proposing? How do you intend to complete your project?
  • Up to ten (10) images for jurying: 3 images(or video) of past work and 3-7 images(or video) of your proposed project. Images of your proposed project may be sketches, studies, renderings, photographs of assembled elements or complete projects if the project has been realized in an earlier incarnation.
