Indy Arts Council Opens Nominations for Art & Soul 2024 Featured Artists

Art & Soul celebrates empowerment through the arts and recognizes over 100 local African American artists. In February 2024, the Indy Arts Council will host the 28th annual Art & Soul. Each year, four artists are chosen to be Featured Artists. The selection committee are leaders from Asante Art Institute, FLAVA FRESH !, IIbada Dance Company, and Indy Jazz Fest.

Featured Artist Eligibility

An Art & Soul Featured Artist is an African American artist who:

• Has been working in or pursuing their field for more than three years
• Is at least 18 years old (but not currently enrolled in high school)
• Must be able to fully participate in a kick-off program on Friday, February 2, 2024 (tentative date)
• Must be able to fully participate in a closing program on Friday, February 23, 2024 (tentative date) or Sunday, February 25, 2024  tentative date)
• Capable of performing a presentation (dancers/musicians/literary artists/etc) or presenting a exhibition (visual artists) in February 2024

Featured Artist Role 

• Capable of performing (dancers/musicians/literary artists/etc.) or  presenting a exhibition (visual artists) in February 2024
• Featured Artists payment of $4,000 each to support engagement in February events noted above

Applicants will be evaluated based on the overall excellence of the artist's work and demonstration of exceptional talent; the artist's commitment to professional growth and their art form; and the artist's ability to contribute to meeting the goals for Art & Soul and enhancing the year's theme for the program. Artists may nominate themselves.

Nomination Timeline

Accepting nominations until July 31, 2023
Adjudication/Selection in August 2023
Notification in September 2023
