The Indy Arts Council is the leading advocacy and services organization serving artists and arts and cultural organizations in central Indiana. We are seeking an Arts Administration Intern to provide cross-department support to advance our mission. To ensure a well-rounded, hands-on experience in arts administration and arts agency work, the intern will have opportunities to interact with and support the Arts Council’s full range of programs and services including grants/fellowships, artist services, public art, development, events, finance/accounting, board meetings, marketing/advocacy, and more.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Assists with cross-departmental support including:

  • Daily administrative activities such as filing and organization, tracking expenses, payment processing
  • Support for impact reporting and research programs/surveys
  • Data entry and using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (Salesforce, MailChimp), (training/coaching will be provided as needed)
  • Donation tracking and issuing acknowledgements
  • Agency special event preparation and staffing, including board meetings, receptions, fundraisers, public art dedications, gallery openings, etc.
  • Other various administrative and reception related tasks, as needed

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in arts administration and/or nonprofit management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Very proficient with software - Microsoft Office Suite (particularly MS Excel), Google Suite, Zoom, etc. and willingness to learn. Other software may include: Survey Monkey, Formstack, Monday.com (project management), Boardable, Docusign, GoSmart (grant administration)
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle several tasks while meeting deadlines

Compensation: $15 per hour
Hours: 20 - 30 hours / week beginning May through August or beyond
Schedule: Priority availability for in-office work Tue, Wed, Thurs
Location: Main Office - 924 N Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis, IN
Note: Some remote work may be possible based on workload and scheduling needs
