Partnerships for Lawrence and SignCraft Industries seek local artists, emerging artists, art students and creative community members for a public mural competition for the back of the Lawrence Parks Department Show Wagon. Mural design entries, either digitally composed or hand drawn, should be scaled to 12” wide by 3” high. No previous experience necessary! All entries are due at the Theater at the Fort by Friday April 22, 2016.
The winning artist will receive a $1,000 scholarship (students), or prize and receive all materials and instruction on how to prepare for an outdoor mural. Community volunteers will be invited to help with the painting process on Friday May 13th at Civic Plaza, Fort Benjamin Harrison. All ages welcome, no experience necessary, refreshments provided.
Theme for Design:
The final mural will be painted on the back (long side) of the Portable Show Wagon – finished size is 8’ tall x 32’ wide. The Show Wagon is owned by the City of Lawrence Parks Department and is used for public events including Fridays at the Fort and the Fourth of July Festival. Their message to be represented by this mural is: “What does the Lawrence Community look like to you?”
Members from the project partners, SignCraft Industries, Partnerships for Lawrence, Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Parks and Recreation, and ProAct will select finalist designs. The public will be invited to vote for their favorite of the finalists, $1 per vote at the Toast the Arts event Thursday, April 28, 2016 5-7pm at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Lawrence, IN.
Entry fee: $10 (students $5) includes up to three entries.
Medium for design is not limited, but color is encouraged. Finished mural will use exterior paint, and clear coat graffiti block. Please create your design to scale: 12 inches wide by 3 inches high. Digital entries should be saved as .jpg or .pdf and return along with our entry form found on our website: www.partnershipsforlawrence.org/mural
