Omaha – MCC Auto Tech Facility Public Art RFQ

Activated: 08/13/2021

Call Summary
The LEED-certified building has bold colors, textures and design elements, combined with the structural and mechanical elements of the automotive industry, presenting a unique and exciting challenge for artists. Special consideration will be given to work that would be inspiring and creative to people learning, working, and teaching within the building, which could be informed by the function of the building and/or the mission of MCC.

Budget Description
A maximum of $100,000.00 is allocated for this project.
All expenses for the selected design and commission are the responsibility of the artist/team, including but not limited to: travel/lodging, fabrication and supplies, installation expenses (as needed: engineering, rigging, foundation, equipment rental, etc)
Please note: artist responsible for installation expenses, including engineering, footings, rigging/rental, lighting and should be included in the budget.

Project Description
Located on the MCC South Omaha Campus, the new MCC Auto Tech Facility is a 100,000 square-foot building that will serve as the future home of the College’s Automotive Technology and Automotive Collision Technology programs.

In order to make both programs more visible to the public and private industry partners, the two floors of the building are connected by ample amounts of interior glass. This allows visitors of the facility to see the entire building from the second floor, observing the educational activities taking place on the first floor without disturbing ongoing classes or posing potential safety concerns.

The program facilitates key partnerships between the college and private industry partners such as Toyota, Scion, & Lexus. Ultimately, the new facility will set a new standard in automotive educational environments, and will serve as an example for similar programs in the region and across the country.

Artwork Location Description
There are three (3) artwork sites, listed below. In the Letter of Interest, list one (1) site preference and a brief descriptive summary proposed artwork:

1) In the north atrium, a wall that extends from the interior atrium to the exterior of the building.
