Job Description

Park Tudor is currently seeking an experienced, dynamic, and reflective Lower and Middle School Art educator for the spring semester who is committed to cultivating a learning environment that is student-centered, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of every student.

The successful candidate is knowledgeable and experienced teaching an art curriculum to students in grades 5-8. They must exhibit the ability to draw well with a firm understanding and mastery of perspective drawing, shading, figure drawing, and blind-contour drawing. They will be responsible for developing students’ artistic habits of mind, using skills and techniques of artistic expression, and developing aesthetic understanding and appreciation, to discover and develop students’ art talent.

Candidates must be willing to work with students outside the classroom, and design and implement meaningful extracurricular learning experiences.

Members of the department recognize the individuality of each learner and as a result are thoughtful and innovative in their approach to communicating and executing skills in the subject. The Fine Arts Department has a rich history of interdisciplinary collaborations across divisions and within the department. Extensive professional development opportunities are available through participation in conferences and workshops, membership in professional organizations, and continuing education.

Qualification Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Certification in Art Education preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years teaching experience required.
  • Ability to teach and develop skills in Drawing, Painting, 3-D, Printmaking and the elements of design and principles of art.
  • Develop an aesthetic understanding and appreciation that allows students to make qualitative judgments about art.
  • Further the students’ knowledge of visual arts and media through art theory and history.
  • Student-centered with a passion to teach at the Elementary and Middle School levels.
  • Ability to teach varied levels of drawing and painting techniques for a vertical articulation of skill building.
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings and provide actionable feedback.
  • Plan and present art displays designed to exhibit students’ work.
  • Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professionalism with and amongst all constituencies.
  • Commitment to professional development.
