People’s Planning Academy (PPA) is an innovative and award-winning approach to engaging populations who have been historically underrepresented in urban planning processes. PPA is a public training that educates Indy neighbors about city planning, so they can become more active in making sure the city government works for them. The content of the training is curated to highlight the unique realities of Indianapolis. The training has covered a variety of topics, including zoning, real estate development, affordable housing, neighborhood research, local history, and much more.

People’s Planning Academy 2023 is here!

This year’s training, People’s Planning Academy: Art and Culture, will allow participants to explore how art and culture shape the city. Participants will participate in two Saturday classes and work with an Artist in Residence to learn how public art projects can help imagine more safe, inclusive, and sustainable public spaces in Indianapolis. Participants who complete the full training will earn Planning Ambassador Certificates, opportunities to participate in stakeholder/focus groups for future planning projects, opportunities to teach or suggest topics for future PPA classes, and access to the network of Planning Ambassadors.

Program dates: Saturday, October 21st and Saturday, November 4th, 2023

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Location: Riverside Park 2420 E. Riverside Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202

Please note: Selected participants will be asked to review supplemental training materials prior to both days of training. These will be accessed virtually and should take approximately an hour to complete.
