Dublin Arts Council has issued a national call for artists to award a $150,000 all-inclusive commission for the creation of a site-specific permanent public artwork installation at M.L. “Red” Trabue Nature Reserve in Dublin, Ohio. Named for “Red” Trabue, a Dublin naturalist, journalist and television pioneer, the reserve is a 90-acre park which features restored wetland and vernal pools, biking and walking paths, a fishing pond, an arboretum, wildflower and prairie grasslands, bluebird nest boxes and an 1865-era log cabin. Park entrances are located at 6835 Avery-Muirfield Dr. and 6566 Post Rd., in Dublin. The artwork will be the latest large-scale permanent artwork of the Dublin Art in Public Places program, which was begun in 1988. The collection includes more than 60 large and small-scale permanent, temporary and interactive projects and is valued at $3.8 million.

The artwork is slated for installation and dedication in the summer of 2023. The application deadline is Sept. 1, 2021. The call is open to all professional artists who are U.S. citizens and live and work in the United States. Artist teams will be considered, but only a single artist project manager will be contracted. Dublin Arts Council will collaborate with the City of Dublin and members of the community to award the commission. Creative license with diverse interpretations, including abstract focus, will be considered.
