Imaginative or fanciful; remote from reality. Oxford English Dictionary

  1. Based on or existing only in fantasy; unreal: fantastic mythological creatures; the fantastic realms of science fiction.
  2. Strange or fanciful in form, conception, or appearance.

This year the South Haven Center for the Arts is celebrating Frida Kahlo’s garden at Casa Azul, her lifelong refuge and inspiration. In celebration of indigenous Mexican culture, it featured a range of plants and animals native to her home country. In her studio, Frida painted still lifes and self-portraits exploding with the colors and shapes of these plants and animals.

Artists are invited to submit your visions of the fantastical flora and fauna that live in your imagination.

What’s growing in your garden?

This call is open to all artists 18 years of age or over in the following states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. All work must be the original work of the artist and completed in the last three years. South Haven reserves the right to decline any work that is substantially different from the submitted images, or is not professionally presented. The exhibition will be presented online in a virtual image gallery on the website,
