About the event:  Greening the Statehouse 2022: Clean Water for Indiana. This is the 15th annual Greening the Statehouse, Indiana’s largest environmental gathering, and they anticipate around 500 attendees.  It will take place Saturday, October 15, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Eastern at the IMMI Conference Center in Westfield, IN.  The program for the day includes presentations, a lunch of locally produced foods, and abundant break time for networking and engagement with the artwork. Artwork will be displayed in the conference space for the one-day conference. Learn more about the event here https://www.hecweb.org/gts/.

Call for Water-themed Art: The event is water themed, and they are seeking water-themed art because 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act.  Prior to passage of this landmark federal law, it was legal to dump just about anything into our rivers, streams, lakes, and wetlands.  Raw sewage, industrial waste, trash, and the offal from slaughter houses were all routinely sent into Indiana’s waters.  Indiana has much cleaner, healthier waterways since the passage of the Clean Water Act, healthier for people but also for the myriad species that share this land with us.  There have been major improvements since 1972, but there are also water pollution challenges that remain.

HEC seeks water-themed art to display at this one-day event.  Pieces could be inspired by a particular Indiana stream, river, lake, pond, spring, marsh, or other waterway or they might be an expression of the progress from dumping to protecting waterways or an expression of hope for clean waterways in the next 50 years or an expression of climate change’s impact on Indiana’s waterways.  All 2-D visual art media are welcome, including digital.  There will be ‘People’s Choice’ awards in several categories based on votes of the attendees.

Artwork on display at Greening the Statehouse can be marked as 'for sale' by the artist. The Hoosier Environmental Council will not take commissions or handle any transactions.
