“A Conversation with Makoto Fujimura” At the Harrison Center for the Arts, Sunday June 5th from 3:30-6:30 pm
This limited admission event is a unique opportunity to hear from and interact with the internationally renowned artist. Attendee’s will receive a complimentary signed copy of Makoto’s new book Silence and Beauty.
The event begins at 3:30 with a tour of the Harrison Center for the arts with Mako, led by Harrison founder and Executive Director, Joanna Taft. (If you are already familiar with the Harrison, the tour is optional.)
Just after 4pm, we’ll move to Harrison’s Gallery #2, a converted chapel. There, we’ll be treated to a conversation with Mako, led by Joanna Taft and New Renaissance Arts Movement Director, J. Scott McElroy.
For this special event, a local collector has graciously loaned us Mako’s “Olana-Isaiah”painting, as well as a copy of “The Four Holy Gospels” and “The Golden Sea” . We’ll hear stories about these works, and Mako may share about his experiences with the forthcoming Martin Scorsese film “Silence”, which shares subject matter with his new book. This will be an unscripted, casual conversation, with opportunity for questions. Then Mako will sign books for attendees.
At approximately 5:30 our group is invited to walk to Joanna Taft’s home for a “Porch Party” on her quaint Victorian porch. The “Porch Party” is a concept the Harrison has pioneered in urban Indianapolis; simple gatherings that bring families, friends, neighborhoods and communities together. They build positive culture, an idea that Mako champions through his work with Culture Care. Refreshments will be served. (The “Porch Party” is optional, for those who need to get back to family or dinner.)
As you can see, this “Conversation with Mako Fujimura” is a very special event. If you are interested in being a part of it, don’t wait to register as attendance is very limited.
Tickets for the event are $85 per person, which includes a signed copy of the book Silence and Beauty.
