The Genesis Theatre Company presents A Silent Night in Harlem.

It’s Christmastime in Harlem and the year is 1955.  A Silent Night in Harlem tells the story of the BOHANNAN FAMILY – with Dorthy Mae Bohannan who has migrated north from Yazoo City, Mississippi seeking better opportunities for her and her family which consists of 3 grown daughters: (Cora – A Beautician at “Bessie’s” Beauty Shop; Gertrude – a Maid for Tom & Gladys Parker in Upper Eastside Manhattan, and Anniebelle – a Cigarette Girl at the Savoy Ballroom.  Dorthy’s feisty, flirty and fashionable friend Mabel lives across the hall and dates “Big Jim,” a 2-bit Hustler and Gambler.  Dorthy joined the thousands of others who migrated from South to North to joyously be part of the bulging Harlem Renaissance era, in search of better opportunities.  While living a new and different life in Harlem, Dorthy fails to deal with the past that she left behind in Mississippi; thus revealing a hidden secret which she and her Mother and Midwife Beulah Mae have kept for so many years.
