We are using that expertise and our theme to relate the life story of one of the greatest influential personalities in African-American music history. This year’s concert will be a thought-provoking collection of skits, dance numbers and songs. One skit will deal with the effects of substance abuse around the holidays. Why Curtis Mayfield? Curtis Mayfield was a prolific musician and he had a distinctive way of blending social commentary with lyrics and melodies to convey optimism when despair was overwhelming. He was iconic and has been compared to other historical greats who advocated peaceful demonstrations when faced with injustice. Don’t we need that messaging right now? Attending the holiday concert has become a tradition for many families. I hope you will join us and them for an educational, entertaining and memorable evening of music classics.
