“I’m excited with this opportunity, as it’s my first show since moving back to my homeland,” said Kehoe, a Hoosier native. “Tired of winter and grey,” he sought out colorful vistas in Sedona, Arizona, and brings those aspects back to Indiana with his work. “I want viewers to lose themselves within this collection, and be moved by the essence of beauty.”
Timothy Kehoe was born on Lake Wawasee, near Syracuse, Indiana. He attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in Wisconsin, before journeying on to Arizona to hone his creative expression through abstract, non-objective painting. His palette has been influenced by the Native American cultures and vibrant colors of the Southwest, he remains purposefully vague in his composition.
With “Anonymous Saints,” Kehoe aims to envelope his audience in the color and simplicity of abstract human form, reminiscent of saints depicted in the stained glass windows of grand cathedrals. Highlighted haloes will tie the work together.
Only his second show in Indiana, Kehoe had previously participated in a charity auction, in 2007, to raise funds for Indiana Youth Group. He’s impressed by the changes made in Indianapolis in his absence.
“Indy is a progressive city, with its support of public art,” said Kehoe. “It is not only tolerant of the LGBTQ community, but supportive of it. A newish young culture is moving back from the suburbs to make the city and surrounding areas a hub for a new generation. And, of course, I’m closer to family, so it’s good to be back.”
