Avenue Indy Jazz Quintet

In this program the band takes center stage with an instrumental program of unique arrangements of familiar songs. The band specializes in variety, drawing inspiration from dixieland, bebop, Blue Note jazz, smooth jazz, classical melodies, Latin grooves, and even TV show themes. With Avenue Indy, improvised solos are short and sets are full of variety. If you don’t like something they are playing, wait about 3 minutes and they’ll be on to something completely different. Jeff believes that most listeners enjoy the jazz vibe but are put off by “heady compositions and endless improvised solos.” None of that with Avenue Indy.

Once again the Timeless Music Project will convert the Smash Social ping pong club into an intimate venue for live music. As with all shows in this series, showtime conveniently scheduled from 3pm to 5pm with a single intermission.

Bandleader Jeff Conrad has arranged these songs to showcase the amazing talents of these great musicians, individually and collectively.

Meet the band:

Rich Cohen – saxophone
Although a nuclear physicist by education, Rich is known to be one of Indy’s best sax soloists.
Jeff DeHerdt – keyboard
With an unused engineering degree from Purdue, Jeff is a regular contributor to bands throughout Indy
Jon Block – bass
Jazz bassist, classical organist and sought after piano tuner, Jon has played with “everybody”.
Larry Sauer – drums
Larry is a top session drummer in Indy and the owner of Encore Entertainment booking agency
Jeff Conrad – trumpet/flugelhorn, arranger.
A veteran of recording studios, Broadway show pits, and Star acts… and, resisting all the way, became a bandleader in 2015 with the forming of Avenue Indy featuring the Avenue Indy Jazz Quintet.
