Join bassist Meeks and his formidable quartet perform the music of his newest CD Red.Black.Green.
The album Red.Black.Green is one part of Brandon Meeks’ 2016 simultaneous release of two albums. The music is inspired by the idea of liberation. Meeks was motivated to create the project after spending years digging deep into history to understand the context of modern issues surrounding race and cultural traditions that impact the existence of black people in America.
“This lead me to question everything I’ve ever been taught about religion, education and social economic factors. What I discovered is that since childhood my creativity has been hindered in numerous ways in order for me to fit the status quo, blend in and not make life harder on myself by standing out in any meaningful way.” says Meeks. Red.Black.Green is comprised of warm, soul-drenched acoustic jazz compositions while also speaking to critical social issues. It fuses thought-provoking concepts with authentic, high-level musicianship and haunting melodies. The album’s sound gives listeners an alternative to the current trends of mainstream music.
Since beginning the album release process, Meeks has become a full-time entrepreneur and began to practice community building strategies within his circle of influence. The music in Red.Black.Green symbolizes a very personal transition of liberation but is meant to inspire others, especially black people to take similar action.
