Sit With the Gaze is an immersive ambient sound work created for gazing at the sky. Participants are invited to check out a pair of headphones to listen to this ambient work and lay on the ground, gazing upwards. Balloons on long kite strings drift above this gaze space, that moment of observing balloons as they drift away suspended in time. Collectively the experience of facing an open sky with sound and airborne ephemera creates an immersive experience for contemplation.
Nat Evans (Seattle)
That Summer
Park of the Laments Tunnel
2pm-5pm
That Summer is a sound-based document of a season and place by Nat Evans presented within the resonant tunnel of Park of the Laments. Field recordings made in Central Indiana during the summer of 2015 will be combined and broadcast into the space, and visitors will be able to activate and explore the piece by moving through the tunnel, and returning to it throughout the course of the evening. An Indiana native, now Seattle-based sound artist Nat Evans is fascinated by memories of listening to the shimmering summer choruses of cicadas, and observing the long slow fade of their disappearance at the end of the summer. As the evening continues, the field recordings of an Indiana summer resonating in this tunnel will shift and change over time and, like the cicadas, over a long period of time slowly fade to silence.
Robin Cox (Indianapolis)
