Connecting Distances Exhibition

Connecting Distances showcases two VGLE projects: 4000 Miles of Transcontinental Storytelling and Cultural Threads: Weaving Visual Dialogues Across Continents. In 4000 Miles of Transcontinental Storytelling, Sydney Craig and first-year Herron students collaborated with Judith Glaser and students from the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg, Germany. ​During the exchange, students shared and developed narratives that related to personal, curated artifacts.

In the project Cultural Threads: Weaving Visual Dialogues Across Continents, Amrita Datta and Herron students partnered with Hyung-Kyung Lee and students from Yonsei University. The collaboration aimed to address cultural differences without a shared experience, emphasizing online collaboration and virtual learning between South Korea and the United States. Through this initiative, students gained empowerment in exploring autonomy and reciprocity principles, gaining practical experience in relationship building and thematic patterns. The central focus was on exploring cross-cultural assumptions, fostering cultural sensitivity, and bridging differences using diverse models of visual inquiry.
