“The Daughters of Z” is based on a short story of the same name from the book But God Remembered: Stories of Women from Creation to the Promised Land written by local Rabbi and writer Sandy Eisenberg Sasso. Sasso’s story is inspired by the book of Numbers (chapter 27) from the Hebrew Bible. Sometimes near the end of the Exodus, the 5 daughters of Z (Zelophehad) defy the law and convention of the day to petition for their father’s inheritance and land.
