FREE Accessibility and Inclusion in the Theatre Workshop

Disabled people are the largest minority group in the US, with anywhere from a fifth to a quarter of adults having one or more disabilities. You can’t tell from looking at the stage, though:
Disabled actors and technicians are underrepresented and systemically shut out of every step of the theatre process, from producing new work to the notoriously fatiguing twelve-hour tech rehearsals.

This one-time workshop, presented by disabled theatre artist Caitlin Cafiero, will begin with the roots of ableism in the arts and progress through practical ways of increasing accessibility and inclusion onstage, backstage, and in the audience.

From arts administrators and producers to actors and technicians, everyone has something to learn. The responsibility of education should not be placed solely on disabled theatre artists.
This is your invitation to learn what there is to learn to do your part in dismantling the ableism that underpins our culture. With this knowledge, you can be an advocate and ally to amplify the voices of disabled actors, designers, and technicians in your theatre community.
