Eric Schoch is a photographer interested in exploring the interactions of lines, shape, color, and gesture, to explore scenes in the wilderness, the city, or the studio. He has been experimenting with composites, multiple exposures, and intentional camera movements in his imagery, in this case, focusing on dreams.
“Researchers have suggested that ‘dreams seem to represent a kind of bizarre expression of affects, emotions, images, and cognition that link the deep unconsciousness with consciousness,’” Schoch said. “That, I think, is what is developing in these images as I experiment. These are dreamscapes in which the familiar is covered by layers of subconscious imagination.”
About Eric Schoch
A Circle City Industrial Complex staple, Eric Schoch is a former newspaper reporter and medical science writer. Now a self-taught photographer, he is free from the reins of medical and journalistic standards in his artistic exploration. He mixes up shapes and colors to produce images that are fun and unexpected.
“I could hope that after seeing these images, people will look forward to nights of happy, magical, colorful dreams,” Schoch said. “Or that they would enjoy new ways of seeing in their everyday lives. But I’ll be happy if they simply had fun looking at these pictures, or even if they made fun of these pictures. Actually spending time looking is the thing.”
