A car bomb exploded in 2007 in the historic center of Baghdad. More than 130 people died or were wounded, but al-Mutanabbi Street escaped geographic bounds to become a global place for the free exchange of ideas. View selections from a rare collection of artist's books and broadsides.

On November 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. there will be presentation by Randa Jarrar, an award-winning novelist, short story writer, essayist and translator, in the Basile Auditorium in Eskenazi Hall. This event is part of the al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Symposium and is presented by the IUPUI Arts and Humanities Institute in collaboration with the IUPUI Library and Rufus & Louise Reiber Reading Series.
