IDADA First Friday - International Workers Day Panel

In his book Jailbird Kurt Vonnegut said, “Labor history was pornography of a sort in those days, and even more so in these days. In public schools and in the homes of nice people it was and remains pretty much taboo to tell tales of labor's sufferings and derring-do.” But this is exactly what the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library plans to do on May 2 at 6 p.m. as the Vonnegut Library hosts a panel discussion to highlight the history of the Labor Movement and draw attention to Hoosiers who contributed to improving the lives of workers. The event joins Vonnegut’s interest in workers with the history of the Labor Movement, including Indiana labor leaders. The panel includes Pat LaMarche (known for her role as candidate for vice president with the Green Party during the 2004 election); attorney Jane Conley, great niece of Eugene V. Debs; Tom Szymanski of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; Jean Cauger Chipper, friend to Mary and Powers Hapgood; and Attorney William Fife of the Vonnegut Library and Exodus Refugee Immigration. This event is part of the IDADA First Friday tour.
