'Illuminando el Camino,' an ILA Group Show

The Phoenix Theatre will host Illuminando el Camino, (Lighting the Path) outside of the Basile Theatre, accompanying “Mojada,” a play addressing themes of Mexican culture, immigration, and assimilation by Luis Alfaro. This show will open with a reception on opening night for “Mojada,” on February 16th, 6pm. There will also be a corresponding “Trail Talk,” regarding immigration and DACA, on February 22nd. “2023 is looking strong with three shows so far (an additional will be in May),” co-founder of Indy Latina Artists (ILA), Mary Mindiola, said. “We are looking for our members to take leadership so that they can learn more about their own art, how to book events, how to expose their work, and so that they can get known and get involved. We are working artists who are learning from each other and sharing experiences.”

“And it’s about courage,” co-founder Mirvia Sol Eckert said. “So many of us artists are in our shells, and we know many people won’t see our artwork if we don’t practice the courage of leadership. As Indy Latina Artists, we have to explain what we’re about and no one can do that better than the individual artist talking about their art. We’re hoping that, through these shows and opportunities, we all grow in the presentation of our art as much as we grow in the development and creation of our art.”

Artistas Latinas de Indy (ILA ) Un grupo de artistas latinas quienes viven en Indianápolis y sus alrededores abrirán dos exhibiciones simultáneas en diferentes espacios para el mes de Febrero.

El Teatro Phoenix será el anfitrión de Iluminándo el camino en la Galleria Basile del teatro. Simultáneamente, el teatro presenta su obra “Mojada,” una obra basada en temas de inmigración mexicana y asimilación por Luis Alfaro. Está exhibición abrirá sus puertas la noche del 16 de Febrero a las 6pm, una hora y media antes de la presentación del teatro.
El 22 de febrero el Teatro también tendrá una charla acerca de inmigración y DACA. La exhibición estará abierta al público ese día.

“El 2023 se ve triunfante con tres exhibiciones hasta ahora (y otras más en Mayo y Junio ),” dice la co-fundadora Mary Mindiola. “Estamos buscando que nuestras participantes tomen liderazgo para que aprendan más sobre su propio arte, cómo organizar exhibiciones, como promover su arte para que aprendan y se involucren. Nosotras somos artistas laborando en nuestra profesión, aprendiendo juntas y compartiendo experiencias.”

“Se trata de coraje” dice la co-fundadora Mirvia Sol Eckert “Muchos artistas nos escondemos aún sabiendo que muchos no verán nuestro arte. Tenemos que ser valientes y tomar liderazgo. Como artistas latinas de Indy tenemos que explicar quienes somos y nadie puede hacer eso mejor que nosotras mismas. Esperamos que por medio de estas múltiples exhibiciones y oportunidades todas nos preparemos en saber presentar nuestros trabajos así como también desarrollar y hacer crecer nuestro arte.”
