“Indiana War Memorial: Behind the Scaffolding” Talk

In downtown Indianapolis, it’s hard to miss the Indiana War Memorial, a temple-like limestone monument rising several stories above street level. Dedicated in 1933 to honor Hoosier veterans of World War I, it’s an architectural showstopper. But it’s been shrouded in scaffolding since late last summer as crews implement much needed repairs.

On March 7, Indiana Landmarks’ free “Indiana War Memorial: Behind the Scaffolding” illustrated talk tells the tale of the professional daredevil crew (known in the business as a Difficult Access Team) that scaled the memorial’s ziggurated top to find the source of leaks damaging interior plaster and murals. Hear from Logan Cook, professional engineer with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, as he explains the challenges faced in preserving this Indianapolis icon.

Join us at 5:30 p.m. for a cash bar and light refreshments before the talk begins at 6 p.m., followed by a Q&A session from 6:45-7 p.m.

The illustrated talk is presented with support by Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates and STRUCTURAL. Indiana Landmarks Center is accessible to all, and free parking is available in the lot north of the building and on surrounding streets.
