Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Evening Classical Series: Greetings from Italy

The 2021–22 DeHaan Classical Series is a grand world tour of musical masterworks. Enjoy musical postcards, a sampling of the immense musical catalog of different countries, regions, and cultures, and guest artists from around the world.

Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, also known as the Italian Symphony, is meant to evoke the sights and sounds of Italy, and Mendelssohn called it “the jolliest piece I have so far written.” The 2011 piece Gutta cavat lapidem by Italian composer Lucia Ronchetii was created with the image of a drop of water having the power to hollow out stone. Berlioz’ symphony, written in response to the beauty of the Italian landscape, gives ISO Principal Violist Yu Jin a chance to showoff a range of emotion
