Jim Storch has been active in Pittsburgh’s underground music scene since 2006 (previously under the name Burnout Warcry). Initially inspired by the thriving improv/noise scene in turn of the century Pittsburgh, he started making his own sounds drawing from a wealth of influences including Sun Ra, Martin Denny, and Wolf Eyes.
The result is a unique sound and performance style. His performances combine minimalist drones with a barrage of shrieks and pulses as he presides over a pile of found objects, percussion, and game calls. Voice and ukulele have recently gained prominence in his music, both as drone sources and for further interjections.
Along with his solo project, Jim has recently embarked on a collaboration with bassist/composer Jeff Weston. He will also appear as a guest performer with the group How Things Are Made on September 29th.
Outside of the improv realm, Jim is active as a member of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh and the East Shore Chorale.
