Kan-Kan Outdoors: 'The Watermelon Woman' Socially-Distant Screening on May 12th

Join the Kan-Kan Cinema at The Play Ground at IndyFringe for an outdoor screening of ‘The Watermelon Woman’ on Wednesday, May 12th, at 8:30 PM. Popcorn and drinks will be available for pre-order.

Cheryl Dunye, the writer, director and lead actor, stars as an aspiring filmmaker / video store clerk who is trying to make a film about The Watermelon Woman, a black actress from the 1930s known for playing the stereotypical “mammy” archetypes. This 1996 film is a landmark of New Queer Cinema and the first feature film directed by a black lesbian.

ADMISSION INFO

TICKETS:  General Admission is $12.00 and popcorn is $5.00. Tickets are available on the Kan-Kan’s website.

WEATHER:  Be sure to check the weather and dress accordingly as this event takes place outdoors.

PARKING:  There is no assigned area for parking for this event, but there is street parking available on the south side of St. Clair Street and along Fulton Street. Be sure to check the parking signs. Additionally, the Art Bank has paid parking, check the signs and pay via phone.

BEVERAGES:  If you are interested in enjoying a drink during the screening, IndyFringe has beverages available ONLY for pre-order. Please click the link below to pre-order your beverage(s) prior to the event. Outside alcohol is not allowed. Due to social distancing guidelines, there will not be a bar for purchases at the event and no cash will be accepted at the venue.

Pre-Order Drinks (Order Deadline: 3 PM the Day of the Screening)

POPCORN:  The Kan-Kan has popcorn available for purchase on our website. It is only available for pre-order and the deadline is 3 PM on the day of the screening.

FOOD:  Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic or order in from one of your favorite Mass Ave restaurants.

MASKS:  We ask that all guests please help keep everyone safe by following the CDC guidelines of wearing a mask at all times unless seated at your table and maintaining a distance of at least six feet from others.

RESTROOMS:  The IndyFringe restrooms will be available. Masks are required.
