La Lontananza Nostalgica Utopica Futura

Artist Statement:

The title of this work is taken from one of the last works of the composer Luigi Nono. It translates as: “A desired nostalgia for a future utopia.” Another title, taken from a Nono composition is “Hay que caminar, sonado” which translates to”Wanderer, there is no destination, but you must travel.”
I identify with these in an aesthetic, theological, and spiritual sense. The works in the series, both painting and film, cover a decade long traversal. These works echo that sense of identification.
