Live Cast Reading - The Agitators by Mat Smart

Phoenix Theatre presents the return of The Agitators by Mat Smart, a landmark play that resounds with even greater urgency and relevance today than when it opened in February on the Phoenix’s Livia & Steve Russell stage (closing early due to the pandemic).

Returning for this free, LIVE, online performance are Jerome Beck as Frederick Douglass, Lauren Briggeman as Susan B. Anthony, and director Mikael Burke. 
Following the reading, Phoenix Artistic Director Bill Simmons moderates a wide-ranging discussion with Beck, Briggeman and Burke. They will examine what it is like to present The Agitators through the racial and social justice lenses of the Black Lives Matter movement and the 100th anniversary of a woman’s right to vote, all within the context of these extraordinary times.
