Rodrigo was born in the city of Villavicencio, Colombia and began playing the harp at the age of 12. It is one of the main instruments in the musical genre of llanero folklore (llanera music), comprising the harp, bandola, maracas, the cuatro, and the bass. Llanera music transcends and covers the vast Venezuelan geography and parts of the Colombian plains.
