Henri Matisse (French, 1869–1954) was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, whose stylistic innovations fundamentally altered the course of modern art. In a career spanning six decades, his achievements in painting, sculpture, drawing, graphic arts, book illustration, and paper cutouts earned the acclaim of collectors, critics, and several generations of younger artists. Working during a time defined by rapid change, Matisse was an innovator who transformed the way we see the world.

Matisse, Life in Color: Masterworks from The Baltimore Museum of Art features more than 100 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints. Drawn almost entirely from The Cone Collection of The Baltimore Museum of Art – one of the most renowned collections of Matisse’s art in the world – this must-see exhibition includes an extraordinary array of works from throughout the artist’s career.
