Spirit and Place: Art Feeding Empathy - A Burma/Congo Conversation on Peace

Artists Saw Kennedy from Myanmar and Jean Claude Lofenia from the Democratic Republic of Congo will be sharing their thoughts on art, awareness, and our interconnectedness. Refugees from Myanmar (Burma) and the Democratic Republic of Congo share a belief in freedom and democracy, even with different cultures and languages. Both of these countries have experienced significant conflict and distress, and it has often led to the need to flee their homes, their regions, and their countries.

Art can be a medium for communication and conversation around the issues and challenges that people from these two countries face. We will look at the history of the countries, how refugees got here to Indianapolis, and what it means to find your way to a sense of awareness of others around you. Join us for a conversation on art, empathy, and what it means to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
