Strong WO-men?

A collector and curator of vintage photographs, Yasha Persson uses her background as a photographer to digitally layer, manipulate, and deconstruct imagery to create collages that express themes ranging from heavy concepts to humor.

Strong WO-men? sees Persson’s work focusing on the essence of strong women, figuratively, if not literally.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

My work is an investigation of my mind’s inventory, where I deconstruct and juxtapose imagery, textures, colors, and glyphs. As a reflection of my personal baggage, the themes in my art often range from human rights issues to humor; however these themes might present themselves later in the process of the piece.

My titles and glyphs provide clues to context and interpretation. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each piece, sometimes they stand out in content and aesthetic. I think of my work as finished reservoirs of fragments, objects, drawings, paintings, and photographs. Through my creative process, I find resolution with questions or concerns that I may have at the time. My influences are everything I see, feel, and experience. No matter what the subject matter might be at the time, my art is rooted in enjoyment and aesthetics.

I have a B.F.A. in Photography from Herron School of Art and an M.F.A. in photography from Indiana State University. I hope to continue making art that holds my attention visually, physically, and spiritually.
